I get asked a lot, “What are the best books on Wild Plants?” Well, there is no “one” best book, not yet anyway. But for now, there are these:
The Useful Wild Plants of Texas, the Southeastern and Southwestern United States, the Southern Plains, and Northern… by Scooter Cheatham, Marshall Conring Johnston and Lynn Marshall (Jun 1995) Volumes 1, 2 and 3 are in print, 4 goes to the publisher, soon. Only 10 more after that …
Available at www.usefulwildplants.org
Edible and Useful Plants of the Southwest: Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona by Delena Tull (Sep 15, 2013) (one of Scooter’s WeedFeed students, a good Texas guide)
Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants in Wild (and Not So Wild) Places by Steve Brill and Evelyn Dean (May 20, 1994) (from NEW YORK CITY, but don’t get a rope, it’s a pretty darned good book, more in-depth than Tull’s book)
A Survival Acre: 50 Worldwide Wild Foods & Medicines by Linda Runyon (Jan 1, 1985) (seems simple but some important, unique ideas here)
And one of my favorites, if you can find it (I bought mine at Fort Leaton, years ago):
